PROFILE: Biblioholic, Place for Makassar Book Lovers

Thursday 8 March 2007

Reading space, library, book house or whatever, all about books and reading activities, unfortunately books or reading are not that famous as television and play station; moreover it is worsened because of the limited access to the reading resources especially books, in particular about South Sulawesi books, as the result of we cannot effort to buy books, and because of the insufficient libraries that have expected good quality book collection. That’s the fact.

Above facts then become our collective concern; at last generate us to put in effort to creating an unconventional alternative reading space instead of conventional library.

Biblioholic was established on 13 May 2004, firstly only to share the personal collections to the fellow-bookaholics in more fashionable way. The germ of the reading space has been growing even several years before the foundation of Biblioholic, started by some former students of Hasanuddin University from several faculties. They have realized the importance of presenting a more comfortable library; meaning comfortable environment on enjoying reading. Therefore we were going door-to-door to campaign the idea of creating the community library (reading space), next step then we took were holding book donation from personal collection of our friends and relatives (including our childhood memories books remained, property of our own, children, nephews, aunts, uncles and parents) then born Ininnawa Library as the first tread of the developing of Bibilioholic that become an alternative place of students and people bookaholics around us for gathering. Then on the progress of Biblioholic to update the collection we buy the new or second hand reading materials (books, magazines and comics, etc). We create “the place of the bookaholic to hangout” as the tagline of Biblioholic.

At last the effort of developing Biblioholic bring into being the library and books rental which has various collection, mainly on social and humanity issues (Literary, social, culture, philosophy, history, etc), comics and magazine on various segment. Besides, Bibilioholic then also become a bookstore (business unit) in cooperation with some distributors and publisher, such as Insist press Yogyakarta, Lontar Jakarta, Agromedia, Ininnawa Press Makassar and some local publisher in Makassar.
